"The essence of matter is structure, and the essence of structure is mathematics."
Action and reaction. Balance and counter-balance. Structure and symmetry. Light and shadow.
This is just one of a series of pieces that I have done in this style:
Technical Details:
Painted with a Wacom Tablet using Corel Painter 11.
The figure is painted entirely using the Liquid Ink Calligraphy / Depth Flat brushes, with four ink colors applied on separate layers and overlayed.
The background is a stock paper texture purchased by me from dreamtime stock images.
The stock paper behind the drawn image is manipulated using distortion (pinch, bulge), photo effects (dodge and burn), and surface effects ("add texture" using image luminosity).
The shadow was not created free-hand: the figure layers were copied and collapsed, and then over-painted a solid color (airbrush with "preserve transparency" makes this easy), and then the whole thing was image-transformed to alter the shape and size.
At the point of originally uploading this, I have a fear that the overall effect is too dark. I may try to do something to lighten it a little bit later, I haven't decided. What do you think?
