My life-sized (almost) charcoal self-portrait is almost finished. I'm not completely happy with it -- there are things (e.g. some of the proportioning) that I would like to change but that at this stage it's really too late to do anything about. But that's ok, I'm still learning how to work with charcoal anyway (plus this is the first time I've drawn anything this large).
I'm showing myself posing next to it in order to show the scale of it better. As you can see, it's not QUITE life-sized... I think because I was drawing from a mirror that was across the room, so I was seeing myself from "far away".
you are a cute looking, very well-defined and talented young man. Your picture as cute as is, does not reflect what appears to be an almost superhuman effort to wear out every machine in the gymnasium.
I realize it is hard to take a three-dimensional God and make him look realistic on a postage stamp, I particularly noticed your torso image does not reflect your true definition.
Don't get me wrong, I think you have done a fantastic job to this point. However openwork you have put him both in the gym, and in your photography, you owe it to yourself to reflect the best muscle tone and definition you can. Believe me, they don't last forever, but the pictures do.
Have a very happy new year and keep up the good work.
Best wishes,
John
The mural looks great too, but the real thing is giving it a run for its money

Aloha from Hawaii,

And don't worry... I know I'm just beginning with charcoal so I fully accept criticism... with the full expectation that I'll get better!
